Juventus were convinced that Emiliano Martinez wanted to join them this summer and become their first-choice goalkeeper, but that move will now not happen.

The Bianconeri were keen to add Martinez to their squad as their new number one because they no longer fully trust Michele di Gregorio in goal. Although Di Gregorio is considered one of the finest goalkeepers in Serie A, Juventus have become concerned about his performances and are looking for a new option.

The club spent several weeks attempting to sign Martinez, but their pursuit eventually failed. A few days ago, Juventus accepted that the deal would not happen and officially informed Aston Villa that they had ended their interest in the goalkeeper.

Martinez Decides to Remain at Villa Park

Martinez was reportedly unhappy with the situation, but he will remain at Aston Villa and is not expected to join another club during this summer transfer window.

Juventus have now turned their attention towards Zion Suzuki as they search for a new goalkeeper. If Paris Saint-Germain complete a move for the Japan international ahead of them, the Bianconeri will reportedly look to sign him on loan from the French club.

The search for a new first-choice goalkeeper continues, but Juventus must now consider alternative options after missing out on Martinez.

Emery Plays Key Role in Decision

Journalist Nicolò Schira revealed how Aston Villa managed to keep their goalkeeper, speaking via Tuttojuve:

“Unai Emery has convinced El Dibu Martinez to stay at Aston Villa. The goalkeeper was keen to leave Aston Villa before the World Cup, but Emery played a key role in Dibu’s final decision.”

Martinez’s decision to remain at Villa Park means Juventus must continue their search elsewhere. The influence of Emery appears to have been crucial in keeping the goalkeeper at the club, despite interest from Juve.

The Bianconeri will now focus on securing another option before the new season begins.
