With injuries piling up in defence for Napoli, it’s reported they could welcome Juan Jesus back for another spell after his contract was allowed to expire.

Alessandro Buongiorno discovered at the start of pre-season training that he would require surgery to reconstruct the root of the meniscus ligament in his knee, an operation that should keep him out of action for two to three months.

Sam Beukema is also not fully fit after missing the end of last season, so there are limited options for new coach Max Allegri.

According to Il Mattino newspaper and Tuttomercatoweb, the solution might be a familiar face, because Juan Jesus just became a free agent when his contract was allowed to run down on June 30.

The Brazilian celebrated his 35th birthday last month and is considering a few proposals, including from Venezia in Serie A, Deportivo La Coruna in Spain, and Atletico Mineiro in his homeland.

Juan Jesus has been in Italy since 2012, playing for Inter and Roma before coming to Napoli as a free agent in the summer of 2021.

There is still a problem, because Napoli are under squad limits and would need to free up a slot by selling one of their over-22 players first.
