Juanjo Nieto has completed a nearly 14-year round trip to CD Castellón, making his first official appearance for the club since 2012.
The full-back started at Zubieta as Pablo Hernández’s side beat Real Sociedad B 1-0 to open the league campaign. El Periódico Mediterráneo highlights how the comeback bridges two very different eras for club and player.
His previous competitive outing came on 22 December 2012, away to Catarroja in Tercera División. Aged 18 and still a youth player, he was just breaking into the first team. Castellón won that match 2-0.
Nieto left Castalia in 2013 for Valladolid Promesas, then Atlético Baleares, Mallorca and Hércules. He later established himself in Segunda División with Oviedo, also featuring for Almería and Huesca. A spell abroad with Slovenian side Celje preceded his return this summer.
This latest appearance arrived exactly 4,983 days after that visit to Catarroja, the third-longest interval between two official matches by the same player in Castellón’s history. Those years also chart the club’s shift from Tercera División in 2012 to a side once more in Segunda División.
