Julen Jon Guerrero has joined Estepona for the coming season, reuniting his path with his father Julen Guerrero, who is the club’s sporting director.
The Málaga side said in a statement on Sunday that the 22-year-old forward had joined. He returns to the town where he first played at San José school, and the club’s social media hailed his youth, talent and quality for their attack.
Developed at Málaga and Real Madrid and a Spain youth international, Guerrero ended last season with Getafe B in Segunda RFEF, joining from Arenteiro in Primera Federación after terminating his deal.
He had moved to Galicia a year earlier from Alavés B, which he joined in January 2024 after leaving Real Madrid Castilla. That summer Alavés loaned him to Amorebieta, where he had already spent half a season on loan from Valdebebas in 2023, the year Amorebieta won promotion to Segunda.
In his second spell at the Biscayan club in summer 2024, he played under Julen. The former Athletic striker was dismissed after 10 matches with the team bottom of Primera RFEF following relegation, and in January Amorebieta and Alavés agreed to end Julen Jon’s loan after his role diminished following the change in the dugout.
Father and son have crossed paths before. Julen Jon came through Málaga’s academy while his father worked there, and he was also called up when Julen coached Spain’s under-15s.
