Luis de la Fuente sends message to Julen Guerrero as ex-Athletic captain recovers from heart attack | OneFootball

Luis de la Fuente ended a press conference in Oviedo with a message of support for Julen Guerrero, who is recovering at home after a heart attack, ahead of Spain’s meeting with the Czech Republic.

According to El Correo, the 52-year-old former Athletic midfielder was taken to Basurto hospital last Sunday after feeling unwell, then discharged after several days under observation.

The Spain coach and the former Athletic captain are long-time friends from their time together at Athletic and in Spain’s youth teams. Guerrero is currently general manager of Estepona.

De la Fuente said Guerrero was in good spirits and confirmed he had spoken to him on Thursday. The coach sent his encouragement and best wishes.

He also extended his support to Joaquín Caparrós, who is fighting colon cancer.
