Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has found himself on the wrong side of Hansi Flick’s rules on several occasions, as the 2024/25 campaign has been tough on the Frenchman when it comes to punctuality.
Flick, known for demanding discipline, has not hesitated to leave Kounde out of the starting line-up when he has arrived late for training.
Last season alone, Kounde has been benched for three games, against Alaves, Espanyol, and Rayo Vallecano, because he failed to show up on time.
Despite these punishments, Kounde has taken them in stride, never publicly complaining or showing disrespect towards his manager.
Although being benched can sometimes cause problems between a player and coach, Kounde has shown professionalism by accepting Flick’s decisions without making a fuss.
Recently, though, Kounde decided to have a bit of fun with the whole situation. He posted a playful message on Instagram that made light of his struggles with punctuality.
Kounde poked fun at Hansi Flick on Instagram.
On his Instagram story, Kounde shared a photo of American comedian and actor Steve Harvey, along with the caption: “People who arrive late tend to live longer and be more successful.”
Kounde added his own cheerful comment: “Good morning! Great news.” The post quickly caught the attention of fans, many of whom found his sense of humour refreshing.
Punctuality is one of Flick’s biggest priorities as he tries to bring more discipline and focus to Barcelona’s squad. Flick believes that a professional attitude off the pitch translates to better performances on it, which is why he has been strict with Kounde.
While Flick’s approach might seem harsh, it is clear that he is determined to build a team culture based on respect and dedication.
Kounde’s light-hearted post shows that he understands the importance of discipline but is not afraid to laugh at himself, which could help keep the mood positive in the dressing room.
