Blues are now reportedly in the box seat to loan Liam Millar from Hull City

The finer details of Birmingham City's attempted swoop for Hull City's Canadian international winger, Liam Millar, have been revealed ahead of Tuesday's 11PM transfer deadline.

As per an update from Mike White of BBC Radio Humberside Sport, the 26-year-old will join the ambitious Championship side on a season-long loan if a deal can be wrapped up between the two clubs in the coming hours.

Birmingham are one of many sides in league action on Tuesday evening against Southampton at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, but that hasn't meant that transfer activity, after an intriguing summer window in this part of the West Midlands has shown any signs of slowing down.

Birmingham have only made six signings throughout the summer window, and despite the club's unbeaten start to their second successive Championship campaign, there have been frustrations showcased from supporters when it comes to the pursuit of targets capable of filling voids in wide areas or the 'number 10' role.

Blues, along with Wrexham, suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ipswich Town's Anis Mehmeti this weekend, but it was revealed on Monday that they and Middlesbrough had joined Stoke City in the race for Millar's services.

The Toronto-born man scored Hull's winner against Coventry City on Saturday to continue Sergej Jakirovic's side's 100% return to the Premier League, and after reports emerged that he was 'unsure' over a move to Stoke, Blues were said to have agreed a deal of their own in the early hours of Deadline Day.

And, after revealing that Millar was ready to undergo a medical due to interest from the Second City side, White has now confirmed that it will be a loan agreement between themselves and Hull, whilst there is confidence a deal can be agreed.

It has been apparent in the opening weeks of the season that Birmingham were lacking depth in attacking areas due to player sales or pre-season injuries.

As a result, Jay Stansfield has started the season on the left-wing as opposed to a central position, which has limited his impact on matches as previously seen.

Birmingham, meanwhile, had been linked with a reunion for former Brighton loanee, Ibrahim Osman, although it was stated by Davies earlier this summer that the likelihood of said deal happening was unlikely.

However, Millar would certainly provide strong competition for Demarai Gray, who has started this season with two goals in all competitions.

In recent times, Birmingham's ambitions of returning to the Premier League and plans for the Sports Quarter complex have been a major factor in attracting transfer targets, and Millar would hope to be a part of yet another promotion bid if a deal can be finalised.

The Canadian has 79 Championship appearances under his belt from his spell at Hull and a prior loan with Preston North End, but hasn't had the smoothest of rides in East Yorkshire due to a serious ACL injury which was sustained in October 2023 and kept him sidelined for 11 months.

However, as shown with his goal against Coventry, the Liverpool academy graduate, when on form, does have the speed and end product to cause plenty of damage in transition, which is what Davies will be hoping for.
