In a major development, Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo is likely to miss the first El Clasico of the season later this month due to injury.

As confirmed earlier today by the Spanish national team, Olmo has suffered a calf injury and will be leaving the La Roja camp to return to Barcelona on Saturday.

Further tests will be conducted on the 27-year-old playmaker at the club facilities on Monday, following which an official update from the Blaugrana will be arriving.

Initial prognosis concerning

However, Barcelona have already gotten their hands on the reports of the tests and scans conducted by the Spanish national team.

And, according to club sources, should the suspected muscle tear be confirmed, even if it is a minor one, he is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks.

As such, Olmo’s participation in El Clasico remains uncertain, although the club has not yet ruled it out.

Before facing Real Madrid, Barcelona are set to play two matches – a La Liga fixture against Girona and a Champions League clash with Olympiacos.

The progress of the attacking midfielder’s recovery will determine his availability for these games, but unless there is an unexpected turnaround, it is highly unlikely that the player from Terrassa will be ready in time.

This comes as a major concern for Barcelona at a time when they are already hit with injuries to several players.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Gavi are definitely ruled out of the Clasico, while goalkeeper Joan Garcia is also expected to miss the big game at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Fermin Lopez and Raphinha are expected to be back in the coming week, as is Lamine Yamal, although Hansi Flick insisted before the international break that the wonderkid’s presence for El Clasico could not be guaranteed.
