Justin De Haas out for more than a month as Valencia assess defensive options

Justin De Haas will be out for more than a month after suffering an ankle injury against Celta, initial tests have confirmed. The Valencia centre-back could not finish that game.

Ahead of Valencia’s meeting with Betis, Carlos Corberán said the problem was more serious than first thought and that he was on his way to hospital for further checks. According to AS, the coach’s concern grew when questioned about the Dutchman.

The setback strips Corberán of a key option for several weeks and heightens the need to recruit another defender. Copete is sidelined with no fixed return date and Diakhaby has struggled for continuity through injuries. For now, Tárrega and Diakhaby are the only fit defenders available to the coach.

Corberán expressed faith in the Frenchman’s level, while acknowledging his lack of minutes. He said he had no doubts about Diakhaby’s level and added that his playing time would be decided in games.

With one week left in the window, De Haas’s injury creates another unexpected problem. Valencia must move on Danjuma and André Almeida to raise funds before they can add, and will now weigh up where reinforcements are most needed. Time, and above all money, will dictate whether strengthening the centre of defence becomes the priority.
