Kaiser Chiefs face concerns after Glody Lilepo's injury!
A cloud of concern has descended upon Kaizer Chiefs' recent victory, as striker Glody Lilepo's triumphant performance was abruptly cut short by a worrying injury. During the team's CAF Confederation Cup clash against AS Simba, the 27-year-old had to be stretchered off the pitch, casting a shadow over the 3-1 win.
Just moments before, Lilepo had been in scintillating form, not only scoring the third goal but also setting up Etiosa Ighodaro for the striker's inaugural goal for Amakhosi. Their immediate synergy on the field had sparked optimism for a potent new attacking partnership.
Commenting on the situation, Coach Kaze offered a measured sense of hope, stating, "We will have to discuss with the doctor, but it was a knock which I think shouldn’t be very bad." He elaborated that a muscular issue would be a greater cause for concern, suggesting that "if it’s a knock, probably one or two days with ice, I think he should be ready to go on Friday against Durban City."
This potential absence creates a critical selection dilemma. Should Lilepo be unavailable and with Ashley Mayo still sidelined, the door may open for Tashreeq Morris and new signing Luke Baartman to make their first appearances of the season.
The upcoming match pits Amakhosi against their former coach, Gavin Hunt, and his Durban City side, a team that will be eager to halt its own two-match losing streak. With a mere "point separating fourth-placed Chiefs and City who are fifth on the PSL table," the encounter carries significant weight in the league standings.
