Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has dismissed the notion that this is the best time to play wounded Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the two teams’ blockbuster clash at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

The defending Betway Premiership champions are embroiled in a transfer saga with several stars, including talisman Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Khuliso Mudau, and Kutlwano Letlhaku, among others, looking to secure moves away from Chloorkop.

On the other hand, the Masandawana faithful have voiced their displeasure following the club’s elimination from the MTN8 by Orlando Pirates last Saturday. The Brazilians last won a domestic cup competition during the 2021/22 campaign.

With the Tshwane giants in disarray, many have tipped rejuvenated Chiefs to pile on their misery as they might be low on confidence. However, the Glamour Boys’ second in command warned against complacency.

“People may think that [it’s a good time], but at end you have to do your job, you have to perform well on the field. It doesn’t matter the context or circumstances of the opponent, but you still have to perform well on the field,” cautioned Kaze.

“And don’t forget as well that you are playing against the last eight-time [league] champions and I don’t think that those kinds of teams get troubled easily that’s why we have been talking and working with our players to not rely on the outside [noise].

“It’s not issues because there are no issues, but our players must not rely on the words that they are hearing from outside. We still have to perform and be at our best in every second and every minute on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, having won their first three Betway Premiership matches, Amakhosi will be keen to continue their flawless record with Sundowns’ scalp. Chiefs will be boosted by the return of head coach Nasreddine Nabi on the touchline.
