The ex-wonderkid only joined the club on loan this summer.
Queens Park Rangers creative midfielder Karamoko Dembele has announced that he will join the club permanently next summer.
The move to bring in the youngster on loan from French club Stade Brest got fans very excited, and understandably so. The loan spell he had before his current one, with Blackpool in League One, went extremely successfully, leading a number of clubs to clamber for his signature this summer.
Birmingham City and Derby County were reported by The Sun's Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, to be after Dembele, as were Bolton Wanderers, according to the Bolton News.
But it was the R's who came out on top, something that they'll be very happy about now that he's settled in at his new home. The 21-year-old has provided three assists in six league appearances for QPR, and an astonishing 2.5 key passes per game, including nine in their match against Plymouth Argyle in August.
That new home of his was supposed to be a temporary one. Now it is going to be a permanent place for him to stay, as he revealed on Monday evening.
September 30th was a very busy night for QPR. They held a fans' forum in which they made three big announcements. Two of them were key contract extensions. They announced that they'd tied down Jake Clarke-Salter plus Marti Cifuentes and his assistant Xavi Calm to new deals with the club.
What will have been just as exciting was the news that Dembele was going to permanently join QPR at the end of his current loan spell.
"Hey guys, Kaddy here," said Dembele in a video message played at the fans' forum. "I just wanted to announce that I'm going to be signing here on a permanent next summer. I’m really excited for what’s to come. I’ve enjoyed it so much, and I’ll see you for the rest of the season, and longer."
Club CEO Christian Nourry revealed that they had an obligation to buy Dembele from Brest next summer if he played a certain number of games for QPR. That trigger has already been activated, so the number of games required must have been fairly minimal.
There has been no mention of the fee that they will pay for him, though.
"I think we've all seen that there's something technically very special about this player," said Nourry about Dembele at the fans' forum.
That talent was spotted very early in his career at Celtic, the club that he joined at the age of 10. As a youngster he was likened to Lionel Messi, but he was never able to find his feet once he got to men's football. Now he has certainly done that, and he will continue to show off his immense ability in a blue and white striped shirt.
To say that he's shown promising signs since arriving at Loftus Road would be at least slightly understating it. Regular attendees to the west London ground would have quickly recognised the raw talent that Dembele possesses.
The brilliant thing is that this deal works amazingly well for all parties. His parent club will get some money back for him, QPR now have a potential star on their hands, he gets to work with one of the best new coaches in the Championship and vice versa.
It just makes sense all round. QPR should be delighted with this bit of business.
