FC Bayern’s Lennart Karl plays his first international match for the German U21s and scores a brace, while Tom Bischof even scores three goals

A perfect debut for Lennart Karl: The FC Bayern youngster scored twice on his debut for the German U21 national team. Karl scored 2-0 and 4-0 for Germany in the DFB team’s 6-0 win over Malta in the European Championship qualifiers

Another Bayern star also shone: Tom Bischof even scored a treble. The 20-year-old gave the DFB team a 1-0 lead and also scored to make it 3-0 and 4-0 for coach Antonio Di Salvo’s team. Muhammed Damar from TSG Hoffenheim provided the final goal

Nagelsmann wants to see Karl in the U21s first

After Karl’s strong performances for Bayern in recent weeks, many had already called for him to be named in the German World Cup squad, but national coach Julian Nagelsmann has other plans for the 17-year-old for the time being

After nominating his squad for the international matches against Luxembourg and Slovakia, he said of Karl: „In general, I’ve always said that I’m not a fan of hyping young players to an extreme early stage.“ He continued: „For me, it’s about having transparent communication with the players.“

Nagelsmann believes that Karl should first develop with the U21s: „First he has to go through the U21s and prove himself there. He can play an important role there. At the moment he needs to get more playing time in the Bundesliga, it’s still too early,“ he said.

In contrast to Karl, Bayern star Bischof has already played for the senior national team, but will now first help the U21s qualify for the European Championships. However, he is also definitely considered a candidate for the World Cup with the senior national team in the summer.
