Three Club Brugge supporters have been handed five days of administrative detention in Kazakhstan for dressing as Borat at a Champions League match.

A court in Astana said in a statement on Thursday that complaints of public disorder were filed against the Belgian trio.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Astana Arena during the tie against Kairat Almaty, which Brugge won 4-1.

The court said the men, identified as S., D. and N., were drunk in the stands, stripped to their underwear and chanted slogans, disrupting public order.

Video footage shows three people wearing the green mankini that fastens behind the neck, made famous by the Borat character.

The 2006 comedy follows a fictional Kazakh journalist in America and portrays Kazakhstan as backward. Jokes linked to the film are rarely welcomed in the country, which has long sought to counter Borat’s image.
