Keeper Lelê on Corinthians’ nerves, intense prep for Women’s Club World Cup

Corinthians Women are already in London for the Champions Cup, which marks the first edition of the Women's Club World Cup. At the airport, goalkeeper Lelê gave an interview to Meu Timão and spoke about the moment the team is experiencing, their preparation for the competition, and expectations for the debut.

According to the athlete, who recently renewed her contract with Corinthians until the end of 2026, participating in the tournament represents a milestone both for the club and for the players who make up the black-and-white squad. “It’s a very important step for Corinthians, for the career of each one who is here, and for sure, above all, we are making a dream come true, so I think everyone is very anxious and confident for our first World Cup.”

Regarding preparation, the squad had two weeks of training in Brazil before the trip. Lelê explained that the short period required adjustments to the pace, and she emphasized the importance of individual care during the vacation.

“We had to speed things up a bit. The most important thing was that we took care of ourselves during the break. We knew the training period would be very short. So, when we came back, we would have to accelerate a lot of things. And the main thing we did was to prepare for the teams we’re going to face, looking at their strengths, what we needed to pay more attention to. So, it was much more about those points.”

Despite the possibility of facing Arsenal, the last Women’s Champions League champion, Lelê stressed that the team’s focus is entirely on their first match in the tournament.

“For sure (the semifinal is more dangerous than a possible final), because if you don’t get past the semi, there’s no final (laughs). So, for us, right now, it’s definitely the most dangerous.”

The Brabas will debut in the Champions Cup on January 28, at 9:30 a.m. (Brasília time) at the GTech Community Stadium, against Gotham FC from the United States. If they advance, Corinthians will play the final against the winner of the match between Arsenal, from England, and AS FAR, from Morocco.
