Brentford’s European chatter is growing after they briefly rose to sixth on Sunday when Manchester City’s third against Liverpool initially stood. Keith Andrews is keeping ambitions measured, yet accepts fans and players should dream.

“We want to achieve as much as we can achieve really by just keeping going. I don’t really like to set targets. For players or myself, I genuinely just go, what’s next?” he told Hounslow Herald.

“I want to try and win every game. I think we’ve shown that we are capable of doing that. Where that brings us, I’m not too sure.”

After back-to-back wins at Aston Villa and Newcastle, Brentford have 39 points with 13 games left. Their relentless, high-octane style has them chasing a club-record Premier League points haul, their highest finish and possibly European football.

“I haven’t put a strict ban on it, I’m not really that way inclined,” he said. “I’m pretty big on free speech.”

“I think it’s right that players, to a point, and staff, to a point, but definitely fans need to be dreaming about what is possible. I know that’s pretty boring for you, but it is day-to-day, week-to-week, because if you start getting your head in the sky, it can become untangled pretty quickly.”

League leaders Arsenal visit the Gtech on Thursday, a fixture Brentford have not won since their first Premier League meeting in 2021, and they will start the weekend seventh, a position they could still occupy come May.
