Kelechi Iheanacho makes dream Bursaspor debut after Celtic exit | OneFootball

Former Celtic striker Kelechi Iheanacho made an immediate impact on his Bursaspor debut as the Nigerian helped his new side begin their Super Lig campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bodrum.

Iheanacho left Celtic at the end of last season after the Hoops were unable to agree a deal to extend his stay in Glasgow, with the 29-year-old subsequently continuing his career in Turkey.

The former Manchester City forward could hardly have asked for a better start at his new club, scoring once and setting up another as Bursaspor collected all three points on the road.

Reflecting on an impressive first appearance, Iheanacho said via Daily Record: “The first matches are usually difficult. But as a team, we overcame the difficulty and I’m happy that we won. I’m also very happy with my personal performance, as I scored a goal and provided an assist.

“Before coming to Bursa and Türkiye, I wasn’t expecting a place like this; Bursa and Türkiye are truly amazing.

“Bursaspor fans gave me a wonderful welcome from the very first day, and after the goal, I wanted to go to them and reciprocate that.

“I hope to be very successful here (at Bursaspor) and lift trophies.”
