After achieving so much as a Celtic player, Kelly Clark created more history for the Club as she helped the Hoops to their first UEFA Women’s Champions League victory.

The captain scored the winning goal of the game as the Hoops defeated Brondby 1-0 in Oslo this afternoon (Wednesday).

Clark’s second-half strike from close-range proved to be the only goal of the game, sealing the Ghirls’ place in Saturday’s Round One final against either Valerenga or Minsk.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, a delighted Kelly Clark said: “The entire squad are genuinely buzzing, to be honest.

"It was a really tough game, but especially in the second half we played really well and there is a group of Celtic fans who have travelled from Scotland to watch us play.

’So we are buzzing for the group and buzzing that we have made history for the club again.’

“We are just delighted that we can give something back because in the current economic state, I genuinely can’t believe how many of them have travelled over.”

Coming into the game, the Hoops were full of confidence having scored 34 goals and winning their opening five SWPL fixtures this campaign.

In total, there have been 15 different scorers, with forwards Amy Gallacher and Kit Loferski currently leading at the top of the charts.

Today's Champions League winner was Kelly Clark's first goal of the 2023/24 campaign, and the defender was delighted wth the goal and, more importantly, the win.

“I don’t think I could quite believe that I had scored,” she explained. “I don’t score very many goals, so to be able to say that I have scored a Champions League goal is kind of beyond my wildest dreams.

“I just love it. I love being able to help the team out in any way, and to pop up with the goal was amazing.

‘But the girls put in a shift for 90 minutes. It was really tough, against good opposition.’

“I scored the goal, but every single player that stepped on the park played a massive part in today’s win.”

With over 250 appearances for the Club, the captain has achieved and created so much history during her spell with the Celts.

And after playing her part in another historic day for Celtic, Clark insisted the squad are always looking to continue doing so.

She said: “A Champions League goal, and a Champions League win. I keep thinking that I have ticked everything that I have achieved and then we do something else.

‘It’s the biggest honour playing for the Club.’

“I said to the girls before the game, to continue making history for this Club is what I want to do and it’s what they want to do.

“It’s just the best feeling to know that you have done something for the first time for this Club is special, and it’s what we aim to do every opportunity that we get.”
