Kieran Trippier to remain at Wolves despite Rob Edwards departure | OneFootball

English defender Kieran Trippier is set to remain at Wolverhampton Wanderers despite the departure of former manager Robert Edwards, according to The Telegraph.

The experienced defender joined Wolves earlier this summer on a two-year contract after discussions with Edwards, but the Welsh manager was dismissed just days after.

His departure raised questions about whether the former England international would reconsider his future at Molineux Stadium. But those doubts have now been put to rest. 

Trippier is focused on helping Wolves bounce straight back to the Premier League and is preparing to report for pre-season training in early July.

Following Edwards’s departure, Wolves moved quickly to appoint Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach. 

Peixoto is believed to have already spoken with Trippier and views the veteran full-back as an important part of his plans. 

The new manager sees Trippier’s leadership, experience and quality as key assets as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion.

Behind the scenes, technical director Matt Jackson has been working closely with Peixoto to shape the club’s strategy for the season ahead. 

Jackson recently travelled to Portugal to discuss transfer plans with the new manager as Wolves continue their rebuilding process following relegation from the Premier League.

The club has already made an early statement of intent by signing Trippier and securing the return of fan favourite Raul Jimenez following his spell at Fulham.

At the same time, Wolves are also working on potential departures following their Championship return.

Several senior players could leave the club this summer, including Joao Gomes, who has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. 

Jose Sa, Ladislav Krejci, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Hwang Hee-chan are also expected to have their situations reviewed after their involvement at the World Cup.

Wolves have also put Jackson Tchatchoua on the chopping block. Peixoto believes Pedro Lima can provide cover for Trippier, allowing the club to cash in on Tchatchoua this summer.
