Ajax beat Groningen 2-0 in the Eredivisie semi-finals at the Kras Stadion on Thursday.

In the 24th minute, Davy Klaassen glanced in a Mika Godts cross from the centre of the box to break the deadlock.

Groningen lost Thom van Bergen to injury (32.).

After the restart, Jorthy Mokio drilled a left-footer from outside the area into the bottom left corner (57.). Sean Steur then departed injured for the hosts (62.).

Brynjolfur Willumsson thought he had pulled one back, but his finish was ruled out after a VAR review (70.).

Maarten Paes preserved the clean sheet late on, saving low from Willumsson (86.).

Godenzonen controlled large spells, posting 61.6% possession and 12 attempts, with five on target. Groningen registered five attempts, testing the goalkeeper once. Godts is second in the Eredivisie assists chart with 13 this season.

The result leaves Godenzonen fifth in the Eredivisie table. Groningen are ninth.
