Manchester City's title hopes were given a huge lift as Rebecca Knaak scored deep into stoppage time to seal a dramatic 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Women's Super League.
For long spells, City looked set to drop valuable points at a crucial stage of the season. Liverpool were organised, dangerous on the break and created the better openings in the first half, with Grace Fisk hitting the post from a corner. Aurélie Csillag and Denise O'Sullivan also tested the home side as City struggled to find any rhythm.
The hosts offered little before the break, with Khadija Shaw's close-range effort their only real threat.
City improved after half-time and began to take control. Kerolin forced an excellent save from Jennifer Falk, while Shaw was also denied as the pressure increased. Liverpool still carried a threat, though, with Beata Olsson and Ceri Holland both going close as the game opened up late on.
Just when it seemed City would be frustrated, they found the breakthrough in added time. From a corner, Knaak rose highest and directed a header goalwards. Falk got a hand to it, but could only help the ball over the line.
The late winner means City remain firmly in control of the title race. Victory over West Ham on the final day would guarantee them the championship, regardless of Arsenal's results.
