Former VfB Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa reached a verbal agreement for a loan move to Köln from Crystal Palace. The Bundesliga club are hoping to sort the final details in the coming hours. The Croat left the Bundesliga in 2023 with an €8 million move to Ajax Amsterdam.

However, injuries and a drop in performance saw the fullback known for his precise crosses to restricted playing time at Ajax, Torino and Crystal Palace. With his competition being the ever-present Tyrick Mitchell, who only missed six games since the start of the 2021/22 season, the 28-year-old struggled for minutes at last season’s Conference League winners.

At Köln, he’ll compete with fellow summer signing Gideon Mensah for the spot yet to be filled since the retirement of club legend Jonas Hector. Sky Sports reported the loan deal will not have a purchase option.

Sosa has a contract until 2028 with the club he joined last summer. He didn’t feature in Crystal Palace’s first two Premier League games of the season. The 27-time Croatia international registered three goals and 24 assists in 93 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart.
