Kylian Mbappé, France's all-time leading scorer, has ended his long association with Nike and signed with Swiss brand On. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward stayed at Real Madrid this summer, yet sought a change.
The player said in an Instagram post that he still dreams of playing with friends until sunset, that football was a game before it became a job, and that this move ranks among the biggest changes in his life. He added that he wants to bring feet closer to the ball and people closer to the game.
On is entering football alongside Mbappé, marking the start of its push into the world's most popular sport. The company counts tennis great Roger Federer among its shareholders and has named 1998 World Cup winner Thierry Henry as director of football.
Financial terms of Mbappé's deal were not disclosed.
Mbappé had been with Nike since the start of his career, becoming a flagship face for the American brand in recent years. He effectively took over that mantle from Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese forward moved towards the latter stages of his career.
