Kylian Mbappé and his former club, PSG, faced off this Monday during a hearing at the Labour Court. After the session, the French capital's club issued a lengthy statement.
In this case, Kylian Mbappé is demanding €253 million in unpaid bonuses and wages, while PSG is seeking to recover €440 million in damages. Following their appearance in court, the French club released a scathing statement. "The club wishes to remind everyone that it made every effort, for over a year, to reach an amicable solution so that all parties could move forward, in line with the spirit of cooperation and trust that should exist between a club and its player. Several bodies involved in this dispute even encouraged an amicable settlement, which the club always sought in good faith. Despite these repeated efforts, Mr. Mbappé has continuously attacked the club at every opportunity, including through the proceedings initiated today — an unfortunate situation for both the player himself and French football as a whole." the statement read.
PSG then revealed that it had submitted evidence to the court allegedly proving Mbappé's "bad faith". The player is said to have concealed his decision "for nearly eleven months, between July 2022 and June 2023," not to extend his contract. "The player then challenged an agreement reached with the club in August 2023, which stipulated a pay cut if he decided to leave on a free transfer, in order to preserve the club's financial stability after the exceptional investment that had been made. PSG continues to rigorously defend its rights. At its core, this is a matter of good faith, honesty, upholding values, and respect for the Parisian institution and its supporters. At the same time, PSG is building on the momentum of the most successful season in its history, which has been based on solidarity, hard work, team spirit, and putting the club above any individual." the club's statement added.
