Alexandre Lacazette urged France to look again at Corentin Tolisso after the midfielder’s 50th goal for Lyon, posting a pointed message on Instagram.
According to Le Progres, tributes poured in on Sunday and Monday. Maxence Caqueret called him his striker, Ruben Kluivert dubbed him the King of Lyon, and Moussa Niakhaté described him as the team’s compass.
The most striking came from Lacazette, now in Neom, Saudi Arabia, and second in Lyon’s scoring history behind Fleury Di Nallo. He tagged the national team account, writing "@EquipedeFrance Allooo".
Tolisso has hit top form again but has not been selected by Didier Deschamps since June 2021. Lacazette’s own history with France and the coach has also been coloured by misunderstanding and distrust.
On Sunday night Samuel Umtiti, retired and now a pundit on RMC’s After Foot, joked in a friendly exchange that perhaps the phone number had changed.
Tolisso replied that he gives everything in matches and wants no regrets, adding that a call-up would be welcome, and if it does not come he will feel he has done all he can.
