The two have already tussled on various matters, particularly regarding the recent events surrounding Xavi Hernandez, while Laporta had earlier called Font a ‘technocrat’.

Nevertheless, Laporta remains the favourite, and one of his desires is to renew the contract of Robert Lewandowski.

Laporta explains why he wants Lewandowski

In a recent interview on Que t’hi Jugues (h/t SPORT), Laporta explained why he was keen on renewing the contract of Lewandowski, which expires at the end of the season.

The Barcelona presidential candidate lauded Lewandowski’s commitment to the team, especially when he made the decision to join Barcelona at a difficult time.

“He’s a player who has great talent, and when he comes on, he scores goals,” he said.

“He came at a time when it wasn’t easy to join Barça. And he did so by leaving a club he admires, Bayern Munich. It wasn’t easy, but he showed that he wanted to come here,” he added.

Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona remains one of the biggest questions for the club heading into the summer, with even the player unsure about his destiny.

However, Laporta wants the Polish veteran to stay, pointing out that the striker has already gotten used to life in Barcelona while maturing well at the same time.

“He is fully adapted to Barcelona, to the city and its surroundings as well,” he said. “I like Robert in everything he does. He is a straightforward person and a player who has matured very well.”

Finally, Laporta acknowledged that Lewandowski has offers from Saudi Arabia but clarified that the player wants to stay in Barcelona.

“He has offers from Saudi Arabia, and very important ones at that, but he wants to stay here,” he concluded.
