Joan Laporta has been busy days leading up to the all-important Clasico this weekend. He most recently visited the province of Huelva to connect with locals and to strengthen the club’s bond in the south.
As part of his visit, Laporta spoke to a digital newspaper, where he talked about the club’s most in-form player right now – Fermin Lopez.
Laporta also talked about Barcelona’s chances of defeating Real Madrid this weekend.
Laporta did not spare praise for Fermin Lopez heading into this crucial tie, revealing that coach Hansi Flick had already informed him about his talent early on.
“Our coach already told me that he was a key player for Barça. And the truth is that Fermín is showing it; he has an extraordinary category as a player, and also, a better person,” he said (h/t Diario SPORT).
Laporta’s praise of Fermin comes on the back of his superb performance against Olympiacos in midweek, where he scored a memorable hat-trick.

The Barcelona president went on to talk about the Clasico, stating his desire to continue Barcelona’s run of dominance against their arch-rival.
“El Clásico is always a match of maximum rivalry, and that is seen all over the world. I would like us to continue last year’s streak,” he said.
Securing a win against Real Madrid could be a huge confidence-booster for Barcelona, especially knowing that Los Blancos played a key role in the cancellation of the proposed Miami game between Barcelona and Villarreal.
When asked about La Liga’s decision to momentarily bin the project, Laporta refused to comment and alluded to the statement released by Barcelona.
“We have already made a statement at Barça, and I refer to the statement,” he concluded.
