It will be a while before we really know whether Chelsea’s latest summer of spending was worth it.
But there are plenty of moves the Blues made over the last few years we can definitively say worked out – and one of them without doubt is the monster transfer of Moises Caicedo.
It took a whole summer of wrestling Brighton, plus £115m, but in the end Chelsea got their man, and a couple of years later it looks like a good deal, even at that huge expense.

Caicedo has become one of our best and one of our most consistent performers. He plays a ridiculous number of minutes and never slows down. Even in games where the team aren’t great (like in Saturday’s draw with Brentford) the Ecuador star still shines.
It’s no wonder then that the club are already considering handing Caicedo a new contract. Fabrizio Romano discussed this on his podcast and explained the reasons that the 23 year old would be getting a wage rise already.
“Chelsea are very happy with him. They invested big money, of course, but Chelsea believe it was very well spent,” Romano explained.
“They like the leadership. They like the skills. They like the behaviour of Moises Caicedo. Chelsea believe that Moises Caicedo is setting the example for young players for the future… Chelsea want to extend his contract and want to give him what he deserves.”
All of that is very fair – if anyone deserves a raise, it’s Moises. Our focus now just needs to be on keeping him fit and not wearing him out. He should be a key player for a decade if we’re smart about it.
