Lazio have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Andrea Pinamonti, who is now viewed as likelier to join than Mauro Icardi.

According to The Laziali, the Sassuolo striker is keen on the move to work under Gennaro Gattuso and has asked to leave, with Alberto Aquilani acknowledging the request.

The next hurdle is a deal with Sassuolo. Lazio's finances point to a loan with an option or obligation to buy next summer, but Pinamonti’s contract runs to June 2027, so a temporary move would likely require him to extend first.

Gattuso has repeatedly prioritised a new centre-forward after none of his current options convinced him in pre-season. Last Friday, Lazio finalised Davide Frattesi’s switch from AC Milan.

On Wednesday they made a significant breakthrough with Ajax for Croatian defender Josip Sutalo, who is now close to signing for the capital club.

Icardi, an Argentine free agent, is currently considered out of the running as he waits to see whether other suitors emerge.
