Lazio players Mattia Zaccagni and Luca Pellegrini have been summoned by Italian police as part of an investigation into relations between players and ultras.

Domani reports that investigators plan to question the pair again after discrepancies were found between their initial statements and information gathered in recent months.

Italian authorities are scrutinising links between organised crime and football fan groups in a nationwide probe. In recent days, club president Claudio Lotito appeared before a parliamentary anti-mafia committee alongside Beppe Marotta, Paolo Scaroni and Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The ongoing protest by sections of Lazio’s support against Lotito is unrelated to the investigation, which instead focuses on alleged illegal activity by ultra members seeking to leverage ties with players and clubs.

To date, the investigation has not uncovered serious evidence of wrongdoing in those interactions, which have largely been limited to post-match shirt exchanges.

Lazio’s ultras have been closely monitored since the 2019 killing of former Curva Nord leader Fabrizio Piscitelli. He was succeeded by his deputy, Ettore Abramo, who has been involved in illicit activities and is now in prison following a pre-trial detention order issued in December.
