Lazio have reportedly extended the contract of their young centre-back, Oliver Provstgaard, but have yet to announce it.

The Background

In February 2025, the Biancocelesti invested €4 million in the Danish defender, who rose through the ranks of Vejle BK. This season, he climbed his way up the pecking order, becoming Maurizio Sarri’s first option off the bench to replace Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila.

With Romagnoli on his way to join Al-Sadd, and Gila heavily linked with a move to Napoli, Provstgaard has a golden opportunity to become a regular starter this season under Gennaro Gattuso. Therefore, Lazio were keen to armor him with a new and improved contract, especially after attracting interest from European clubs.

Oliver Provstgaard Signs New Lazio Contract – Report

According to Il Messaggero, Lazio and Provstgaard have ‘secretly’ signed a new contract, pushing back the deadline from June 2029 to 2031. The Aquile have effectively doubled the player’s salary. He will now earn just over €1 million per year.

Why Lazio Rushed New Provstgaard Deal

As the Roman newspaper explains, the management acted swiftly and decisively on this front to anticipate the transfer market.

The supervisory committee has restricted Lazio to a net-zero transfer campaign. Therefore, the club can only spend on new signings by selling players, and they are prohibited from raising the salaries of the current roster. These restrictions will take effect starting July 1st.

Lazio Set for New-Look Defence

While it remains to be seen what Provstgaard’s place in the hierarchy will be next season, Lazio will certainly have to replace Romagnoli and Gila with newcomers. The club has been linked with several profiles, including Diego Coppola, Fabio Chiarodia, Sergi Dominguez, and Arnau Martinez.
