Lazio’s push to redevelop the defunct Stadio Flaminio moved forward on Tuesday, with the superintendency issuing a favourable opinion on the plans. The club must still adjust the design to safeguard Pier Luigi Nervi’s original architecture.

Lazio selected the venue as their intended new home and hope to be playing there by 2030. Delivering new stadiums in Italy is often complicated by bureaucracy.

The favourable view from the heritage body forms part of a generally positive picture within the Conference of Services, with other authorities also expressing support. The step enables the administrative process to advance.

The club will study the heritage conditions, providing guidance for architects and designers as they refine the scheme.

Even so, the €480 million funding plan has been widely flagged as the most puzzling element, and could prove the major stumbling block during assessment.
