Lazio have brought Alessio Romagnoli back into the fold after his Al Sadd switch collapsed again. La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that an early termination of his deal is not on the table, with the club minded to wait for bids.
The 32-year-old tried to join the Qatari champions in January, but the move fell apart late on when he refused Claudio Lotito’s request to forgo a three-month salary.
Al Sadd revived talks this summer and Lotito accepted a €3 million offer, but the club could not make a payment amid the complicated situation in the Middle East. Lazio turned down a six-month delay and Romagnoli returned to training at Formello.
Despite his return, several Italian reports suggest he is merely waiting for another suitor, with some even indicating Lazio would rescind his contract to save €5 million in gross wages.
For now, the hierarchy expect him to be available to Gennaro Gattuso. His deal runs until June 2027, so he remains part of the group while the market develops.
It is an awkward reunion, after he bid farewell to supporters in a video played during the large anti-Lotito protest on four July.
Atalanta are also said to be keen and would like to reunite him with Maurizio Sarri, though he is thought to prefer a move abroad, perhaps out of respect for the Biancocelesti.
