Lazio are reportedly keeping tabs on experienced Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard, but they have some prestigious company in the race.

Lazio Searching for a New Midfielder

The Biancocelesti have sold Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce in the first week of January and brought in Kenneth Taylor from Ajax. However, Maurizio Sarri insisted that the Dutchman is not a direct replacement for the Frenchman, so he still expects Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani to make one more signing in the middle of the park.

Lazio Join the Race for Christian Norgaard

According to Caught Offside, Lazio are one of the clubs interested in Norgaard, who could leave Arsenal before the end of the month. The source identifies Ajax as the Dane’s biggest admirers, revealing that the Dutch giants have already made initial contact for the 31-year-old.

However, the report insists that Lazio and Roma have also added the player to their shortlists. The Gunners have reportedly set their price tag at €15-17 million. The midfielder’s contract with the North Londoners will expire in June 2027, but it includes an option for another year.

Norgaard’s Career Path & Arsenal Struggles

Norgaard is a youth product of Lyngby, who had spells at Hamburg and Fiorentina, before joining Brentford in 2019. After spending six years with the West Londoners, he signed for Arsenal last summer.

But with the Gunners boasting one of the strongest midfield units in Europe, the Denmark international has been struggling for playing time, only making 11 appearances across all competitions this season, with the majority coming off the bench.

Would Norgaard Suit Lazio?

The former Brentford star often plays as a holding midfielder, operating in front of the backline, so perhaps he wouldn’t be a perfect fit for Sarri’s system, as the Italian tactician prefers to rely on a deep-lying playmaker in the No.6 role. Danilo Cataldi has been the Biancocelesti’s main Regista this season, as Nicolo Rovella has been struggling with a groin injury from the get-go.
