Lazio are exploring a move for Fiorentina forward Albert Gudmundsson, who has slipped to the fringes of the Viola setup.

He started on Saturday as Fiorentina lost 0-3 at home to Frosinone.

According to The Laziali, the 29-year-old could leave amid the imminent arrival of Torino winger Alieu Njie, and Lazio have revived previous interest, contacting Fiorentina to gauge costs. The Iceland international is said to be open to the move.

Gudmundsson developed in the Netherlands with Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven, then AZ Alkmaar, before joining Genoa in 2021. He flourished at the Luigi Ferraris in 2023/24 alongside Mateo Retegui, attracting Serie A heavyweights. He instead joined Fiorentina in summer 2024 for €17 million.

The forward is under contract until June 2029. He mainly operates as a second striker or attacking midfielder, which could allow Gennaro Gattuso to switch to a 4-2-3-1 when required.

He can also play on the left wing, cutting inside onto his right foot, and would compete with Mattia Zaccagni in the current 4-3-3.
