With 48 hours remaining before the transfer deadline, Lazio are making swift progress in their negotiations with Fiorentina and Albert Gudmunsson.
On Saturday night, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla broke the news, revealing that the Biancocelesti have opened a dialogue with the Tuscan club for the Icelandic attacker, who is open to making the move. On Sunday afternoon, Pedulla revealed that the deal, although not yet complete, is rapidly progressing.
The two clubs are working on an initial loan worth €1-2 million with an option to buy for another €15 million. The source warns Lazio about competition from other clubs, chiefly Bologna, but insists that the player has given his priority to the Aquile. La Lazio Siamo Noi are also reporting similar figures, while Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina believes the 29-year-old is ‘very close to joining the capital club.
With Lazio restricted to a net-zero transfer market, an exit might be compulsory to raise funds for the 29-year-old versatile attacker and make room for him on the wage bill. Matteo Cancellieri appears to be one of the names heading towards the exit door, with Gennaro Gattuso favouring Gustav Isaksen on the right wing.
La Lazio Siamo Noi claims that the Italian winger’s move to Genoa is ‘almost done’. The 24-year-old had initially resisted the transfer, perhaps holding out for a more prestigious destination, but is now apparently open to joining Daniele De Rossi’s squad, who happen to be Lazio’s opponents on Sunday evening.

The Roman’s departure could yield a modest transfer fee of €3 million, as his contract is set to expire next year, but this figure could be enough to unlock Gudmunsson’s move. There will certainly be major developments on this front in the coming hours.
