Lazio are preparing to offer Romano Floriani Mussolini a new five-year contract by January, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The 23-year-old has broken into Gennaro Gattuso’s side after returning from a difficult first Serie A spell at Cremonese, who were relegated and chose not to use their option to buy.
He was earmarked in pre-season as Adam Marusic’s understudy at right-back, with Manuel Lazzari deemed surplus to requirements but retained. When Marusic suffered an opening-day injury, Floriani Mussolini stepped in and has started regularly since.
His performances have largely been convincing, despite a mistake in Venice that led to a penalty, saved by Christos Mandas.
Despite his rise, he remains among the lowest first-team earners on €130,000 a year including bonuses. The proposed deal would lift his salary to €500,000 in the first season, with increases each year.
Lazio view a renewal as a priority even though his current contract runs until June 2028. He is the first academy graduate to secure a prominent senior role since Danilo Cataldi.
