Lazio will reportedly attempt to rescind the contract of Samuel Gigot amid his seemingly never-ending physical problems.
The Avignon native completed a deadline-day transfer from Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2024. While he wasn’t a regular starter in his first season at the club, he still made 23 appearances under Marco Baroni, scoring two goals and providing an assist in the process.
On the contrary, the defender didn’t make a single appearance last season with Maurizio Sarri, as his campaign was wrecked by back and ankle injuries.
This summer, Gennaro Gattuso’s arrival represented a golden opportunity for the 32-year-old to bounce back, since he had already worked under the Calabrian manager during their time together in Marseille. However, his injury nightmare continues to haunt him, forcing him to miss the entire pre-season. Gattuso admitted he won’t be able to count on the Frenchman any time soon.
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti management is trying to find a way to terminate the defender’s contract, which expires in June 2027. Gigot is one of the highest-paid players at Lazio, with a yearly gross salary of €4 million. Capalogy places him fourth on the list behind Mattia Zaccagni, Alessio Romagnoli and Nuno Tavares.
Therefore, Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani are determined to chop him off the wage list, but this solution will likely require an agreement with the player’s entourage, and most probably a severance package.
