Il Messaggero reports that Lazio are exploring the termination of Samuel Gigot’s deal, amid the defender’s persistent fitness problems.

Gigot joined from Olympique Marseille on deadline day in summer 2024. He featured 23 times under Marco Baroni in his first season, scoring two and adding an assist.

He did not play at all last season under Maurizio Sarri as back and ankle issues derailed his campaign.

Gennaro Gattuso’s arrival this summer appeared a chance for the 32-year-old to reset, having previously worked together in Marseille. Instead, injuries kept him out of the entire pre-season and he is not expected to be available soon.

The centre-back’s contract runs to June 2027 and he is among Lazio’s highest earners on a reported gross salary of €4 million a year. Club president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani are understood to want his wages off the books, a move that would likely require an agreement with his representatives and a severance package.
