Former Vasco captain Leandro Castán says the club still owe him money and has urged attention to unpaid staff.

Speaking to ESPN, he said: "O Vasco me deve." The clip topped 300 thousand views on X, prompting immediate fan reaction.

The debt relates to his spell in São Januário. He called it sad not to be paid, while stressing the situation is tougher for club employees.

Despite the grievance, Castán welcomed Vasco's restructuring and said supporters deserve better after years of suffering.

A company led by Marcos Lamacchia has won the process to buy 90% of Vasco's SAF, with the Deliberative Council set to vote on 6 October. The deal is valued at around R$ 3 billion and includes R$ 500 million for football.

Castán was unveiled in August 2018 alongside Vinícius Araújo, having left Roma after a loan at Cagliari. He said Maxi López's arrival was decisive and that fans' affection online changed his mind about returning to Brazil.

Later in 2018, as Corinthians considered signing him, his November wages were already late. He helped the team avoid relegation in his first half-season, then stayed despite Corinthians' interest and became a dressing-room leader.

Despite his claim, Vasco are among the few Brazilian clubs not delaying salaries since president Pedrinho arrived. The club is in RJ, and any outstanding sum owed to the defender will be paid there.
