Walsall head coach Lee Grant explained Ronan Maher missed the goalless draw at Leamington with an elbow injury.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, he does not view the problem as long term and said it might take about a week before Maher returns to contact work.
The 21-year-old made four appearances for the Saddlers last season, then joined Tamworth on loan, scoring four and assisting two in 22 games.
Five of Walsall’s six summer signings debuted at Leamington, with James Connolly the notable absentee. He arrived earlier this month on a two-year deal with an option after leaving Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season.
His omission was precautionary, with a tough training week and varying return dates cited, and the staff preferring to be safe rather than overextend players.
Jed Ward, Sven Sprangler and Andrew Dallas played in the first half, while Lewis Simper and Coventry City loanee Isaac Moore featured after the break.
