Leeds confirm Willy Gnonto to Fiorentina on loan with option in €21m package | OneFootball

Leeds United have confirmed Willy Gnonto has joined Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy, in a €21m package covering loan fee, future fee and add-ons.

Leeds United said in a statement that the forward links up with the Serie A side on a temporary basis and returns to Italy, sending their best wishes for his time in Florence.

Leeds had permitted the Italy international to travel to Italy on Monday ahead of the move, and images later showed him in Fiorentina training gear. United were only prepared to sanction his exit if they could add another attacker, and they are working on a deal for France under-21 winger Jean Matteo-Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt before the deadline.

Gnonto arrived at Elland Road in August 2022 and has been a regular since, making just under 150 appearances. He was instrumental in the 2024/25 promotion, scoring nine and providing six assists as Leeds lifted the Championship trophy.

Last season he featured 29 times in all competitions, helping the club stay in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

Fiorentina, now led by Fabio Grosso, are aiming to improve on last term’s 15th-place finish in Serie A. The Viola had reached the UEFA Conference League semi-finals in the previous campaign.
