Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol has been named to start for Slovenia, giving him another platform to continue his strong form.
yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk notes that the towering centre-back, signed from Udinese last summer, enjoyed a strong second half to his first season, starting Leeds' final nine matches and completing the full 90 in seven.
He was included in head coach Bostjan Cesar’s squad for two June friendlies and played every minute of Thursday’s 1-1 draw at home to Cyprus.
Slovenia face Croatia away on Sunday evening, a 7.45pm kick-off at Stadion Anđelko Herjavec in Varazdin.
The fixture offers a last look at England’s first World Cup opponents before the Three Lions meet Croatia in their group opener, and Bijol has been selected to start.
