Saints are thought to want as much as £30m for the 23-year-old, who started 21 times in the Championship last season and has over 100 second-tier appearances.

Leeds remain open to revisiting the situation if Southampton change stance, but they will hold firm on their most recent proposal.

Crystal Palace and Fulham have been linked with interest or potential bids for Charles.

Capped 35 times by his country, he scored against Arsenal and Liverpool in cup competitions last season. He also netted in Saints' play-off semi-final win over Middlesbrough before Spygate saw them denied a place in the Wembley final.
