Leeds United have drawn a line in their pursuit of Shea Charles, with their latest approach to Southampton considered a best and final offer, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands.

Southampton rejected two earlier bids this summer. The Saints are thought to want as much as £30m and are holding out for a fee closer to that valuation.

Leeds will keep their offer on the table but intend to hold firm. They could revisit the situation only if Southampton soften their stance.

There have also been suggestions of interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham in the 23-year-old midfielder.

Charles started 21 Championship games last season and has more than 100 second-tier appearances. He has 35 caps for Northern Ireland, and scored against Arsenal and Liverpool in cup ties last season.

He also netted in Southampton's play-off semi-final win over Middlesbrough, before Spygate denied them a place in the Wembley final.
