Leeds are ‘trying’ to secure a deal for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, with talks ongoing and the player open to the move, according to insider Ben Jacobs.
The Whites have made some exciting signings this summer, with Harry Wilson and James Trafford the best of them. There’s a sense that it could be quite an intriguing seasons for the club.
So far, they’ve made four additions to the squad, but have been linked with some electric wingers.
While it feels unlikely, the signing of Rafael Leao has been floated, while Mykhailo Mudryk is now on the radar.
Insider Jacobs reports Leeds are ‘trying’ to loan in the Chelsea winger, who’s able to return to competitive football after his doping ban was ended this summer.
He states that while nothing is advanced, talks are ongoing, and, crucially, the Ukrainian is ‘open to the move.’
Mudryk is said to be one of a number of attackers under consideration at Elland Road this summer.
When Mudryk returned to training with Chelsea, heading out to Hong Kong for pre-season, it was suggested there were multiple options for him – a loan move away or remaining with the club the likeliest of them.
Xabi Alonso has given him pre-season minutes, and praised the winger for how he’s gone about his return.
He said: “It was more than a football decision. It was a human decision and emotional decision to give him this boost, to feel the great support that he got and the great reception when he came on the pitch.
“Yes, for sure, I’m really pleased for him. It was emotional for everyone from the club to see him back, especially when I told him that before the game that was my idea, that he could play 10-15 minutes.
“He was thrilled, for sure. It was, after such a long period, to be back on the pitch, it was a great feeling for him and a great feeling for everyone as well.”
In an update previous to the Leeds link, Jacobs suggested Mudryk would like to stay in the Premier League.
He said: “Yeah, there’s one loan spot at Strasbourg. So, one possibility, but I get the impression those close to Mudryk prefer Premier League or possibly even other late clubs that might come in that could offer the player European football.
“Key maybe to Mudryk’s season is going to be playing every week, which means that Coventry, which has been long linked and have had a genuine interest, is maybe one option.
“But when you look at that kind of club that might have to be up for a relegation fight from Mudryk’s perspective, it doesn’t help him unless he’s going to be playing every week.”
