Leeds United claimed a convincing 3-1 victory over relegated Burnley in the Premier League at Elland Road on Friday.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin almost opened the scoring 20 seconds into the game after he met Noah Okafor’s cross, but his effort nestled over the bar.
Anton Stach broke the deadlock in the eighth minute with a powerful strike from 25 yards out.
Moments later, the German dispossessed Bashir Humphreys and picked out Ethan Ampadu, whose effort was blocked. Ao Tanaka blazed the rebound over.
James Justin’s long-range shot was comfortably gathered by Martin Dubravka just before half-time.
James Ward-Prowse almost restored parity for the Clarets after the break, but his deflected effort was saved by Karl Darlow.
Okafor doubled Leeds’ advantage after fine work by Calvert-Lewin and Jayden Bogle.
Calvert-Lewin added a third after Dubravka parried Tanaka’s effort into his path for his 12th league goal of the season.
Lucas Pires thought he had pulled one back for the visitors, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.
Loum Tchaouna reduced the deficit with a fine finish, but Burnley never looked like taking anything from the game.
Calvert-Lewin came close to adding a fourth, but his effort was calmly collected by Dubravka. The Slovakian goalkeeper thwarted Joe Rodon from a corner minutes later.
The win stretches Leeds’ unbeaten league run to six games and moves them nine points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur. The two sides face each other next week.
