Leeds United have appealed the accreditation of their second goal in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Monday.

The effort was credited to Jayden Bogle in the 34th minute after he and Dominic Calvert-Lewin attacked James Justin’s cross. Replays showed Calvert-Lewin make first contact before the ball appeared to take a further touch that was judged to be Bogle’s.

When a scorer is in doubt, a three-person panel convenes to identify the final touch, typically a Pro Ref representative and two football experts. Their decision is then relayed to the Premier League’s digital team and data partners Opta, and clubs can request a re-review by the Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel.

"At half-time the ref told me they’d given it to Jayden, that was the first I’d heard of it," Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports. "I just got up early, watched the ball, bang and then just saw it go in the corner. It is what it is, I’ll take the assist I guess."

"I didn’t know anything about it. Nothing about it!" Bogle said. "I said to the ref that I didn’t really fancy telling him, especially at half-time."

After full-time, Calvert-Lewin jokingly called the decision "scandalous" on Instagram and suggested Bogle admitted he did not touch the ball. Leeds await the outcome of the appeal.
