Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Illan Meslier will leave this summer when his Elland Road contract expires, with the retained list due by noon on Wednesday.
The club said in a statement that he departs as a two-time champion after playing a major part in the 2019/20 and 2024/25 promotions, adding he will remain part of the club’s history and was a strong team-mate and constant competitor.
Meslier joined on loan from FC Lorient in 2019 and broke into the side late that season during Kiko Casilla’s racism ban, helping Marcelo Bielsa’s team win the Championship.
He kept the gloves for most of Leeds’ three Premier League campaigns, until Sam Allardyce left him out for the final handful of games in a doomed attempt to keep Leeds up.
Daniel Farke again made him first choice for almost two seasons, but turned to Karl Darlow for the promotion run-in, which ended Meslier’s first-team action.
After promotion, last season’s goalkeeping duties were shared by new signing Lucas Perri and Darlow. Meslier made 215 appearances for Leeds and recorded 72 clean sheets.
