Danny Mills has offered his verdict on Glen Kamara's current situation
Former Leeds United man Danny Mills has provided advice to Glen Kamara amid uncertainty over his immediate future at Elland Road.
Leeds' failure to return to the Premier League at the very first time of asking has meant that they'll now be spending the summer fighting off transfer interest in some of their prized assets, and it remains a very clear possibility that the likes of Crycensio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter and Ilian Meslier among others could follow Archie Gray out of the exit door in the coming weeks.
The Whites' bargaining power for player retention has been subdued following their slender defeat to Southampton in May's play-off final showdown at Wembley and second-tier promotion specialist Daniel Farke will be focusing on supplementing his squad with fresh reinforcements alongside trying to retain as many of his key men as possible.
Kamara is another player who could just be on his way to pastures new despite only arriving from Scottish giants Rangers last summer. According to BBC Radio Leeds' Alan Pope, the former Arsenal midfielder is nearing a switch to Ligue 1 outfit for a reported deal under 10 million euros (£8.4m).
The pundit has addressed the importance of retention but also acknowledges the reality that Championship clubs do receive offers that financially force their hands into acceptance. Nonetheless, he's advised Kamara to stay put in West Yorkshire given the love-in from the Elland Road crowd when they're onside and the likelihood of a second promotion bid from Daniel Farke's men next term.
"With Archie Gray already departed, it's important to keep top players, but if a bid comes in that the club can't turn down, then he may have to leave," said Mills, Via 888poker.
"The player will also have to show their commitment to the manager and if he has this, then they can push to reject any bid. You have to have the player onside and they have to be happy.
"Leeds United are a great club, play well and the fans are right behind you and there is no better place to play than at Elland Road. You know you have a good chance to have a good season, so Kamara may decide this is the best place for him."
Even though Kamara is close to sealing a move to France, Mills' advice stands true and it's certainly worth considering for the midfielder. When the good times are going, Elland Road is an incredibly rousing stadium to ply your trade in and many cult heroes have developed a real affinity with the supporters in years gone by.
Mills is also correct in pointing to the season that Leeds could have and even though Sheffield United, Luton Town and Burnley all represent stern promotion competition following their immediate relegations from the Premier League, it's hard to feel that Leeds won't be right up there once again next term.
